Effective September 3, 2026

PickleCheck ("PickleCheck," "we," "us," or "our") helps pickleball players discover courts, see current court activity, and check in when they are near a court. This policy explains what information PickleCheck collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Account and profile information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, nickname, and authentication information. Passwords are processed using secure password hashing and are not stored as readable text. You may optionally provide your first name, last name, DUPR rating, biography, or profile photo, and you control supported visibility settings.

Location information

PickleCheck requests precise location only when needed for a feature you initiate, such as checking in or submitting a crowd report. We use it to confirm that you are near the selected court and to calculate your distance from that court. PickleCheck does not continuously track your location and does not request background-location access.

Check-in and crowd-report records may include the coordinates supplied by your device, reported GPS accuracy, distance from the court, and the associated time and court.

App activity and community content

We collect information needed to operate PickleCheck, including check-ins and check-outs, active-session times, Home Court and favorite-court selections, crowd estimates, submitted pickleball locations, and account preferences.

Technical information

Our hosting providers may process technical records such as IP address, request time, device or operating-system information, application errors, and security logs to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.

Push notifications

If you choose to enable court-activity notifications, PickleCheck collects an app-specific push notification token and associates it with your account and saved-court notification preferences. We use this token only to deliver requested notifications through Expo and the platform notification services operated by Apple or Google. You can turn these alerts off in My Courts or disable notification permission in your device settings.

How we use information

Information visible to other users

Your nickname is the default identity displayed in PickleCheck. Depending on your settings, other users may also see your selected real-name information and DUPR rating. While checked in, other users may see that you are playing at a particular court and related session information. We do not publicly display the precise GPS coordinates reported by your device.

Service providers and disclosure

We use service providers to operate PickleCheck, including Microsoft Azure for API hosting, database storage, security logging, and account email delivery; Apple and Google for app distribution and platform notification delivery; and Expo for application building, testing, distribution, and push notification delivery. These providers process information on our behalf under their applicable terms and privacy protections.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, to investigate fraud or security incidents, or as part of a business transfer. PickleCheck does not sell personal information and does not use personal information for cross-app behavioral advertising.

Retention

We retain account and app information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to operate and secure PickleCheck. Some security, transaction, backup, or legal records may remain for a limited period after deletion when required for legitimate security, backup, fraud-prevention, or legal purposes.

Your choices and account deletion

You can change supported profile visibility settings in the app and can deny location permission through your device settings. Features requiring proximity verification will not work without location permission.

You may permanently delete your account inside PickleCheck by opening Profile, selecting Delete Account, confirming your identity with your password or a supported linked sign-in provider, and confirming deletion. This removes your account, profile, device push tokens, saved-court relationships, check-in records, and crowd reports from the active service. Submitted court records may remain after being disassociated from your account so the community court directory can continue to function.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Drill Conversations

PickleCheck lets eligible participants in a drill session exchange private text messages through Drill Conversations. When you use this feature, we collect and store the message content you choose to send, the participating player profiles, the associated drill session, timestamps, and any reports or blocks submitted through the feature.

We use this information to provide the conversation feature, deliver notifications when enabled by the user and permitted by their device, prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, investigate reports, and maintain the safety and security of the service.

Drill Conversation messages are encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest on our servers. Drill Conversations are not end-to-end encrypted. Messages are visible only to eligible participants in the applicable drill session and, when necessary, authorized PickleCheck administrators for purposes such as reviewing reports, investigating abuse, enforcing our rules, or maintaining the security of the service.

We do not include message text or sender names in push notifications.

A user may delete their own message while a conversation remains active. Messages associated with canceled drill sessions are generally deleted after approximately 7 days. Messages associated with completed or ended drill sessions are generally deleted after approximately 30 days. Content associated with a report may be retained for up to 90 days when necessary to support safety review, investigation, or enforcement.

Users must not use Drill Conversations for harassment, threats, hate, sexual or inappropriate content, scams, spam, or unlawful activity. PickleCheck may remove content, restrict messaging privileges, or restrict accounts when reasonably necessary to protect users and the community.

Player Direct Messages

PickleCheck also allows eligible players to exchange private direct messages. Player Direct Messages are not an open messaging system. A player may become eligible to message another player only when PickleCheck records that the two players previously played together through overlapping check-ins at the same PickleCheck location. Once players become eligible, they may continue to message each other after that playing session has ended, subject to each player's privacy settings and any applicable blocks or account restrictions.

When you use Player Direct Messages, we collect and store the message content you choose to send, the participating player profiles, information used to establish messaging eligibility, timestamps, conversation settings, and any reports or blocks submitted through the feature.

We use this information to provide direct messaging, verify that players are eligible to communicate, deliver notifications when enabled by the user and permitted by their device, prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, investigate reports, and maintain the safety and security of the service.

Player Direct Messages are encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest on our servers. Player Direct Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Messages are visible to the participating players and, when necessary, authorized PickleCheck administrators for purposes such as reviewing reports, investigating abuse, enforcing our rules, or maintaining the security of the service.

We do not include message text or sender names in push notifications.

A user may block another player at any time. Blocking prevents future direct messages between those players and hides the conversation from the user who initiated the block. A blocked player may later be unblocked through the user's settings.

Users may report another player or a direct-message conversation for reasons including harassment or bullying, spam or scams, inappropriate or sexual content, threats or safety concerns, fake profiles or impersonation, or other violations. Reports may include recent message context so authorized PickleCheck administrators can investigate and take appropriate action.

A user may delete messages they have sent where the feature permits it. Content associated with a report may be retained when reasonably necessary to investigate the report, enforce our rules, prevent abuse, or comply with legal obligations.

Users must not use Player Direct Messages for harassment, threats, hate, sexual or inappropriate content, scams, spam, impersonation, or unlawful activity. PickleCheck may remove content, restrict messaging privileges, block access to messaging features, or restrict accounts when reasonably necessary to protect users and the community.

Children

PickleCheck is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as PickleCheck changes. We will post the updated policy here and revise the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or another appropriate method.
